Shortly after needed two fuel injectors. Then I had to have the trans rebuilt. (auto). I have since replaced the alternator which is a replacement part on ANY car as well as the water pump. I had my rear seal replaced when the trans was done. I replaced the front fascia because it was crap and had to replace parts underneath as well, but I knew this when I bought the car. I replaced tires and brakes, again regular wear parts. I now have over 230,000 miles and drive 100+ miles a day and have alot of joy driving it. I'd say I have $8,000 total into the car. Not bad for a $32,000 sports car that still looks and drives very well. Depends if you want a toy or a ride, determines the $$$$ you spend. Your rattle sounds like a loose heat shield and the popping sound is most likely a ball joint getting ready to come apart. And yes, the wiring on these does tend to get brittle and most have to be replaced after 10-15 years. Corroded neg term? Bad maintenance. Could be a sign. Is your air filter clean? Another sign.
